You might already know that Paris is divided in 20 arrondissements, but do you know its neighborhoods? Where are the residential areas? The tourists areas? The trendy areas, where the so-called "bobos" live, the fashionable middle-class lefties? The answer to those questions might be useful when looking for a place to live or for the sake of tourism.
💭 You can check out our map to get an overall point of view, but don't hesitate to scroll and take a look at our recommandations! Spiky made you a selection of bars, museums, outdoor spaces… at little cost or for free. That's why most of those places are located in the North of Paris, but you can also check out our favorites niche places in the chicest neighborhoods!
Map's key
Blue neighborhoods: "bobos" neighborhoods
Green neighborhoods: working class residential neighborhoods
Salmon neighborhoods: rich residential neighborhoods
Fuchsia neighborhoods: tourist areas
The blue neighborhoods: the "bobos" neighborhoods
Those neighborhoods are the result are a phenomenon called gentrification. What is that, you may ask? It refers to the process by which the upper class, by moving into working class neighborhoods, progressively morph those into rich neighborhoods. Gentrification stakeholders are the "bobos": the "bourgeois bohèmes" (bohemian bourgeois) - one synonym in French for gentrification is indeed "boboïsation". The East of Paris has been actively gentrified, which causes multiple social strata to live side by side.
